Black and Brown Bears

In Alaska, black bears occur over most of the forested areas of the state. In Southeast Alaska, black bears occupy most islands with the exceptions of Admiralty, Baranof, Chichagof, and Kruzof where some of the largest concentration of brown bears are!

Keep your eyes open and you may just spot a bear or two in quiet coves, and along the beaches and streams that we will be exploring.

Bald eagle

The Bald Eagle

The Bald Eagle, found only on the North American continent generally weigh between nine and twelve pounds and have a wing span of seven feet.

Eagles are a common site along our cruise along with a number of other type of birds.

The Stellar Sea Lion

Throughout our cruising, keep a look out for Stellar sea lions. Often times as we are rounding a point in the kayaks we will encounter a herd of them on a rock sleeping and playing and lounging around! They have been known to bite so we need to keep our distance somewhat!

Orcas or Killer Whales

The Killer Whale- Orca -

is the largest member of the group of marine mammals known as dolphins (family Delphinidae). They are called killer whales because they attack and consume whales or other large prey such as seals and sea lions.

We came upon this pod of orcas in Wrangell Narrows.
